About
A scenic overlook of Olmsted Park and Leverett Pond, Allerton Overlook adds a touch of formality to Olmsted's organic park design. Located at the foot of Brookline's Allerton Street, the overlook's grand staircase and plantings welcome residents of Brookline's High Street Hill neighborhood into the Emerald Necklace.
The Overlook's good condition is the direct result of an intensive restoration carried out in the late 1990s, which was advocated for by a number of neighborhood and park organizations. The Overlook's neglected tree canopy and stone entryway were restored and improved in line with the plans of park architect Frederick Law Olmsted. The restored space is popular with residents of both Boston and Brookline, and hosts several of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy's annual summer concerts each year.

Restoring the overlook meant caring for its plants as well as its stonework. During the work, temporary fencing helped new plantings take root while keeping hungry geese at bay.
